Laundry Room Mold Inspection Steps
Because the laundry room is a focal point for the use of water, mold is
commonly found growing in the laundry room, especially beneath and behind
the washing machine and the laundry room sink and cabinet from plumbing
Laundry mold inspection is effective when you utilize these inspection
steps: (1) close visual inspection of all surfaces in the laundry room for water
problems and mold growth; (2) careful visual inspection inside all areas of
the laundry room washing machine and laundry room sink cabinet and behind,
beneath, and behind all other laundry room cabinets; (3) using a professional quality moisture meter to scan
the laundry floor, walls, and ceiling for elevated levels of hidden moisture;
(4) visual inspection for mold inside the clothes dryer exhaust duct; and
(5) surface sampling for deposited/landed mold in out of the way places such
as on the top of the laundry room cabinets and INSIDE the laundry room sink
and washing machine drain pipes.
Check to make sure that the laundry room's exhaust fan is actually
exhausting the humid laundry room air directly to the outdoors and not to
the inside of a wall, ceiling, or attic, wherein the unfortunate result
would be significant hidden mold growth.
In addition, do
mold testing of the laundry room
air, and of the outward air flow from laundry room heating and cooling duct
register, to determine if there are elevated levels of airborne mold spores.
To clean moldy clothes, all other clothes, and to keep the washing machine
itself and its drain pipe free of mold growth, use only Borax laundry
detergent, a natural mold remove and mold cleaner, in your washing machine.
